In the last few years, many companies
have entered into the business of referring people to real estate
agents in different cities. Agents may pay a fee to belong to various
networks and then, companies refer to these fee-paying agents whether
or not they are reputable and professional. The client is taking
a chance!
There is an alternative. Over the many years
I have practiced real estate, I have had the opportunity to meet
hundreds of agents from around the world. I’ve met some
at training courses, some at special events or conferences, some
in the course of various transactions and some by reputation
and introduction by my clientele.
When someone is in need of an agent in an
area outside of south Georgian Bay, I am happy to direct them
to a reputable agent from my database. If I don’t have
a contact for that particular area, I have an almost fool-proof
method for finding the best agent in that locale and, I will
conduct a telephone interview with them as well before making
a referral recommendation.
Typically, REALTORS® are paid
a referral fee by the receiving agent to compensate them for the
time spent assisting the client in finding a suitable agent. There
is no additional cost to the client who is being referred, no obligation
to use the recommended REALTOR®,
and, the client has the benefit of knowing they have been referred
to a reputable REALTOR®.
